Great Yarmouth Town FC are making plans to create a New ladies team within the club. The club is in the best position it has been in a number of years behind the scenes and there is a huge appetite now for the club to develop Girls and Ladies soccer over the coming years.
As part of much broader development plans for the club, (and indeed the Wellesley Site, in a larger project with the council), the time is right for the club to pursue its goals of setting up a new Ladies venture. There is 100pc committee agreement this needs to be a priority in the coming months and work now starts to look at how we will achieve this goal.
In line with club ethos, the ladies voice in the club will be an integral part of future of the club to maintain its One Club ethos. We will be looking to bring in anyone who can help and support in delivering the goals – which include building a development pathway into Ladies football, with development at its heart, but ambitions to drive a Ladies team as far up the leagues as we can manage. The plan would be that the Ladies would play Home games at the Wellesley which would be a fantastic site and great for the local area.
Other clubs in the area have tremendous records, with Wymondham Ladies an obvious example, built from within to become one of the most competitive ladies sides under Alex Guy, and more recently, Wroxham assimilated Acle ladies into their fold and have gone from strength to strength under Rebecca Burton. These clubs/models provide us lots of ideas about how this venture will travel, and we would be interested in speaking with any players / coaches / managers / teams who may feel they could be part of the solution.
The current lockdown gives us plenty of head space to put this work together with the aim to establish a side certainly for the 2022-3 season, but ideally if possible ready for the start of the 2021-22 season.
We invite anyone who has an interest to get in touch with Rob McCombe in the first instance via email: email@example.com or Telephone: 07766 952179
The picture below shows the famous amber & black of Cambridge United Ladies – hopefully we can create a new Ladies section of the club to see the GY Amber and Black at the Wellesley with a new Ladies side leading the way and inspiring local young girls at the same time.
