• Great Yarmouth Town Reserves 3  Briston FC 0  (Pre Season Friendly)
Saturday 24th July 2021. Report by Martin Baxter.
  • Great Yarmouth Town Reserves had their first home game of pre-season after playing several away games on Saturday 24th with a last minute arranged match up against Briston FC from West Norfolk.
With many new faces on show it will be interesting to see how our ressies get on this season after finishing in 2nd position last season and very narrowly missing out on promotion to the Anglian Combination Division 2.
This game was played in 3 periods of 30 minutes and with a roll on, roll off substitution system.
Yarmouth run out comfortable 3-0 winners on the day and every one of the goals was very bizarrely scored in the last minute of each of the 3 periods.
In the 30th minute Alfie Bayfield opened the scoring with the goal of the day, a 20 yard pile driver which gave the Briston keeper no chance of stopping.
In the 60th minute the Bloaters went 2-0 up with a simple tap in from Jack Meakins.
Then yes would you believe it, on exactly 90 minutes Baker converted from close range to give the home side a fully deserved 3-0 victory.
After the game I spoke with joint head coach Paul Blisset  who told me  ” It was great to be back on home soil on the Wellesley, with a few of the lads making their home debuts. It was also good for the squad to put minutes in the bank and a massive thank you to Briston for travelling over from West Norfolk. It ended up being a decent work out for both teams and good luck to Briston for the upcoming season”

  • Team line up from: Nichols, Baker, Melo, Trevor, Dunn, Nico, Bayfield, Delenay, Legget, Ryan J, McAra, Meakins.
Man of the match: Alfie Bayfield.
