Great Yarmouth Town Reserves v Poringland Wanderers

Saturday 12th December 2020. Report by Martin Baxter.

On a damp and misty Saturday at the Wellie the Bloaters entertain unbeaten Wanderers in a top of the table 3rd v 4th clash. Wanderers come into the game unbeaten in the league and this looks like being a very tough game for Travis and his in-form Bloaters.

The visitors indeed start the brighter and their two strikers are looking really lively and start asking questions of the home defenders and on 20 minutes these 2 players combine to create a decent chance which is well stopped with his feet by keeper Nichols.

Yarmouth then reply with their first shot on goal from Harvey Johnson which goes wide and then after another close effort for the away side is stopped by a last ditch tackle, the visitors go in front on 37 minutes when their number 10 takes the ball around Nichols and slots home for a well deserved lead.

This goal seems to wake the home side up at last and they start to take the game to their opponents and win a succession of corners and from the last of these corners right on half-time Cork slots home from close range to level the game up at 1-1.

Half-time 1-1.

Scoring a goal right on half-time seems to have switched the momentum to the Bloaters and they start the 2nd half in a much more positive fashion and it is now the home side who are dominating the midfield and pushing forward.

Cork and Aaron Attree  are at the heart of everything and Cork is unlucky not to add to his tally with 2 great chances which are both well saved by the Wanderers keeper and Yarmouth are having a lot of joy down the right flank which is causing havoc in the visitors rearguard.

On 77 minutes striker Johnson is fouled in the box and then picks himself up to convert the resulting penalty to put Yarmouth 2-1 up.  The Bloaters by now are in total control and are keeping possession really well and despite the visitors efforts to push for an equaliser they are reduced to long range efforts which are dealt with comfortably by Fenn Nichols and the Bloaters see out the game for an excellent win.

This is another one of those games of 2 halves and full credit to Yarmouth for turning the game around in the 2nd half and taking all 3 points, which may prove to be crucial at the end of the season.
